Birds singing, shy sun rays penetrating the still somewhat cold morning, slowly waking me up. This morning, my feet demanded my unwavering attention. There was an itch and restlessness there and it was as if they were saying: “Today is the day”, “Today we claim the attention we deserve”, and who am I but to reject such an insistent call from my own body.
Next, work through the morning routines: drinking water, showering and a couple of minutes of stretching, then it was Forest Time. My destination, a narrow trail up the hill next door. Upon arrival, I took off my shoes (it was about 5-7°C) and I started to walk the trail, barefoot.
I have done this many times before, but this was the first time after a perceivable loooong winter without practice. I walked a bit and gave my feet a short foot bath in a small stream along the way. Not too much further I had to put my shoes back on as my feet had become numb, still a little too cold then..
I continued to walk the trail, enjoying the many bird songs and the beautiful sun passing through the spring-infested tree branches. I took the time to stand still and in position and focus, then finished the trail by another foot batch in the stream at the end of the trail. It felt sooo good. It was as if I could breathe in through my whole body, and from my feet up into my body. Everything was Breath. Simply Magical.
As this has been in my mind for at least a year, how about this year putting it into action: Who wants to come with me on a barefoot walk through the forest, take your shoes with you and see how far you get, no stress, no pressure, just enjoying nature and the sensation of planting your feet on the Forest’ soil with respect and in connection with Mother Earth and observe the healing effect it has on us.
